Nether Edge Grammar School (1927-1958)

Access since 15th May 2002

The purpose of this web site is to record an account of the short life of the Nether Edge Grammar School (1927-1958), in words and photographs.

The site contains a photo gallery of the School buildings and associated facilities (below), a brief history of the school writen by Joan Flett, for the Nether Edge Neighbourhood Group together with a description and illustration of the School buildings and layout,. Coverage is also given to the details and character of the teachers, accounts of the school from the long time head master H Smith, the transition to Abbeydale Grammar School for Boys (new) in 1958 by George Wilkinson, a history of the Brincliffe Grammar School, which continued in the Union Road buildings by Peter Spinks, two unattributed articles by early teachers? and finally recollections of the students themselves. Also covered are Class photos, where available.

I am always interested in new material to add to this site, in particular photos of the school interior and the now demolished Arts & Craft block, also further Class photos and recollections of school days.
