6th. January I exchanged my old chaff cutter for a better model During April I put in some seed potatoes from out of some small ones bought from Harry, season before last they had long sprouts on and went just like rubber but they have come up well and have potatoes on. It is an experiment and if they turn out well I will have another try this season. I will be able to buy small potatoes cheap again. 6th. May. Lily went to hospital. |
 3-1--: Herb and I worked at the tank stand all the morning. Afternoon Ken and Herb soldered spouting and I finished the stand. 4-1--: Ken paid 8/- for 4 pieces of 3 x 2 pine for Clara. 16-1-: Herb, Ken, Frank and I took our old chaff cutter to Williams Ltd and left it there and brought out one, I had made a deal with them and they allowed £3 on ours and I have to pay £8/15/- to them to make things square. We have a good pulley with the machine and we all think it is all right. It was a bit heavy for us to handle but we got it into position although not fastened down. Very hot day yesterday and today too, but not so bad as down south. I will be able to buy small potatoes cheap again. 6-5--: I rode my bike to town right after breakfast and got the ambulance to come out and take Lily in. She was taken ill when she was getting breakfast ready. I was in town all day, as I had to wait until the Doctor examined her. He said it was the same trouble as 10 years ago and said she would have to stay in hospital for about 5 days. There has no doubt she is very sick. | |
