14-9-: I poked around at various little jobs that did not amount to very much. However I was feeling tired enough by night came on. It came up like rain and is feeling rather close. We are being favoured with nice rain lately for the time of the year.
15-9-: We were busy getting ready to go to the bank. My word it is a rush getting away I am afraid it is going to rain some too . Got to Emu Park all serene.
16-9-: Had a bathe and after dinner Ted and I went for a walk along the beach.

1-10-: Felt very tired but poked about cutting wood and picking pines etc. After tea I printed post cards from my Park negatives but did not get results up to expectations. I am consequently disappointed. Summer is coming in earnest now, to day was very warm.
2-10-: I started hoeing peas. My word work goes no good after my holiday I seem to ache all over. The children are also pretty crotchety and the Mrs is no better. Oh dear and I thought we would all have come back brand new. Ted Read can t sell vegetables now.
3-10-: I hoed among tomatoes also dug holes for corner blocks of new verandah. I am sorry to have to say that I dont feel much better after my holiday and the family are no better than myself.
4-10-: Was a semi rainy day. I did a little to the dining room and then went down to Arthurs to see about verandah blocks. After dinner I got them brought home and did a bit of cutting them ready for erection. I made the corners one about ready.
5-10-: I put the verandah blocks in. I have managed to get them very unlevel too. I hope I shall be able to fix them a bit decent. I am very short of time and battens and scaffolding. The rain seems to have all gone but the heat hasn t. It has been simply awful this afternoon.
6-10-: I cut the corner verandah block ready for the plate and run the cornice round the ceiling of the room, I ceiled 3 or 4 weeks ago. It was a tiresome job. After dinner I went down and helped Arthur to run out some timber.

9-10-: I got the plates round, cut out and place to put in a bearer. I then got my bench out of the dining room and cleared pretty well every thing out of it, so as to be able to level the floor a bit prior to concreting.
10-10: I put the morning in levelling the floor of the dining room. A most terrific wind was blowing and this made it a rather unpleasant job. After dinner I hoed a row of tomatoes and then went over to the bower to see if I would be able to get rubble fo r the concrete but I found it would involve me into a lot too much trouble.
11-10: I went down to the dairy first thing after breakfast and fixed Charlies dray up seeing that it would do for sand carting. I then came home and had some lunch and hoed a row of tomatoes. After dinner I got 2 loads of sand and took the dray and horses home.
12-10: I put in a very hard day. I was all day concreting the dining room floor. By gum it was solid work for a chap on his own. Lily gave me a hand at various points of th e game, I just finished by tea time and ached all over and every where else. H.E.Johnson Pinehaven.
13-10: I worked hard until dinner and then for about half an hour after at the cementing of the dining room. I am in need of more cement as it is no job as it is now. Bery Limpus, George Foster and a young woman and child were out for a while.
14-10: Went for butter and milk. I went and had a yarn with Charley after I got back and afternoon I spent at home reading.
15-10: I was up at 5.30 and cut a bit of woo d and gathered a nice lot of tomatoes before I had breakfast. After breakfast I hoed a row of tomatoes and worked at the verandah the rest of the day. I got 20lb of tomatoes. I was able to get most of the joists up to day and went and got Arthurs hose and run as much water as I could from one tank to the other.
16-10: I hoed a row of tomatoes and Lily and I put a nice lot of water from the back tank into the front one. I also made a start at a tank stand. I mortised holes for the verandah posts and dressed some pine for rafters. It was rather warm to day, my word.
17-10: I pulled down the old tank stand and got the tank on to another one I also got the rest of the joists up and started cutting out Y posts. Ted came round and got me to go and put the iron on mothers phaeton. By the time night came I was quite tired enough for anything. I also dressed 2 more rafters to day.
18-10: I carted some more flooring boards up and then went down to pick out timber. After dinner I hoed a row of tomatoes and went down and carted the timber up. Mosquitoes are getting some what bad already. I don t know what they will be like before summer is over.
19-10: I cut 4 verandah posts out and then I got all the posts set up after this I cut out the plates. I was then rather tired and not sorry to cease work and have my tea.
20-10: I managed to get the plates round my verandah before dinner. After dinner I went and gave Arthur a hand with his calves, came home and shaved and had a bath then went back and we tried to rip timber but the engine was out of sorts.
21-10: Went for butter. All my family went to church too and down to Wards for tea.
22-10: I went down to Arthurs before breakfast and got a couple of pieces of timber. After breakfast I picked tomatoes and worked at the verandah the rest of the day. My word it was hot out of the wind too. After tea I went and had a yarn with Arthur.
23-10: I was up and working at the verandah before breakfast and was at it one way or another all day. Ted Read told me last night that he is leaving us on Saturday. He was in town today for the last time round a few of our customers. He has not been much good for a while.
24-10: I was up and at it while Lily was getting breakfast ready. I was not much up to work today but I got most of the roof ready for the iron. I had to dress all the timber and do all the messing around with regard to the job and under these inconviences think I have done pretty fair at the job.
25-10: I got the front end of verandah ready for the iron and then went and had a look a t the paper and picked out some iron and Harry helped me to carry it over to the wagon. Arthur dropped it at my gate and I made a start putting it on. I would have got a lot on only I stopped because some of them are so black.
26-10: I put the rest of the iron on in the fore part of the day. Afternoon I was excavating for the kitchen. The day was far pleasanter than the previous few days have been. I fancy however that we will have more rain. Art was up looking at my verandah.
27-10: I took the capping of the old cart shed and put as much as I could rake up, on the verandah. I then fixed up sufficient flashing to do the job and after this I went and pulled the floor out of the old chows humpy and got it home, I went fishing afternoon but got no feed of fis h.
28-10: Went for milk and butter as usual, also to church. Salvation Army Graham was preacher and did very well.
29-10: I was on the go just after 5 oclock and worked pretty constant all day. It was pretty warm too. It must be going to rain. It seemed a bit crook without Read and mother is all on her lonesome. I run the engine this evening the first time for a couple of months.
30-10: I managed to get the stove moved into a new recess so as Lily could have a fire in it again. I was present at a meeting of the church committee in the evening and didnt get home till nearly 11 oclock.
31-10: I worked at the job a little and then went to town. Got back for dinner and after I had it I did a bit more.. Dick Bunnage came and borrowed my bead plane just before t ea. My eye has been so sore to day that I could not work up to much at all, I got a bit of grit in it yesterday.
1-11-: I worked at the house and also took some produce to Mrs Allen. Rose Lawson was out for her shoes.
2-11-: I put a floor in the new part of the kitchen by 3 o clock and had to take down a door and a lot of other affairs after I had done the floor. I went upstairs and started laying the floor above the kitchen. The weather is very stormy looking but so far no rain comes of it.
3-11-: I layed most of the floor of my studio and then went down stairs and worked at the kitchen. It came on like rain and we have had a very nice amount of it already. My job was not quite advanced enough for it.
4-11-: Was a wet day. I went and had a talk with Charley and Arthur too. 9 of milk from both places and came home.
5-11-: I put a wall on 1 side of the kitchen and finished putting the boards on the other side and also fixed and hung the door. I also went and took the boards off the wall of the old humpy. After this I got my timber on the verandah and also did a bit more towards the flooring of the verandah.
6-11-: I was up working at 5 oclock. I put a shelf and side table up in the kitchen and put some short boards above the door also put some extra nails in a nd cut some boards ready for upstairs. I also went down and got my timber from the humpy with windows.
7-11-: I put a window in and also hung a casement window after putting the glass in. I also made a wash bench and fixed iron in front of the stove and pu t up a couple more shelves in the kitchen. I also went round and got vegetables for Mrs Ward and altogether I had a fairly busy day. After tea I printed post cards.
8-11-: I took the iron of the side of the kitchen next to the dining room and replaced wi th weather boards, also put the window in. After dinner I ripped out stops for one of the lights upstairs and put it in position although I had no facing but drove a few nails in to hold for the time being.
9-11-: I put facing round the sky light and picke d peas, tomatoes etc. I sold my stuff to the chow who goes out to Gracemere. Charley Ware was also down and left me 2/- for tomatoes etc. After dinner I went to the city for some piping to fix the tank.
10-11: It took all the morning as hard as I could go to get my tank fixed up with a tap for the kitchen and up stairs. After dinner I put the boards up at the tank extension of verandah.
11-11: Went and listened to Brassington he is a fine preacher.
12-11: I put the other window affair up and layed the rest of the verandah. My word it was a warm day all right. It is almost unbearable without working. The painters are keeping busy down at Arthurs they will soon put a polish on the house for them.
13-11: I hoed along a couple of rows of Ripley pines. I felt the heat so much, that I took things easy. There seems to be nothing surer than that we are in for a lot of rain.
14-11: I did 2 more of pines and went down for milk. Afternoon it came on to rain, we had a severe storm. I made a long bolt and put down the sid e of my pine cart. I must see if I can strengthen it a bit for the coming season. We are getting too many storms lately. The weeds are having the time of their lives.
15-11: I fixed the pipe so that water will run into the front tank. I also cut out a fron t board and put in my pine cart. I also went for milk and dug a 1/4 of sweet spuds for Clara and I did a bit to the verandah. The weather is so unsettled that a chap doesnt know what to do at all.
16-11: I did a little to the house and went down and picked out timber and got a nice lot sawn up. I fancy I have nearly enough now for my job.
17-11: I run through the rest of the Ripleys with the reaping hook. Afternoon I went and brought my timber up. It was very warm again.
18-11: I didnt go to church to day. I just went to Arthurs for milk and hung around home the rest of the day.
19-11: I cut out all my rails for the west side of verandah and got them ready for boring. I also got the cornice ones up again. I did other jobs as well and was fairly done up when evening came.
20-11: I cut cobbler pegs amongst the pines. The weather was very muggy again. I fancy we will get rain, rain , rain nothing but rain.
21-11: I got the rails up on my verandah but had not enough balusters to finish. I also got rails up at the back of the house, went for milk and cut rubbish out of a lot of pines and went up the hill for wood. I think I put in a pretty fair days work.
22-11: Was a rainy day. I did various jobs about the house including putting short weatherboards at the back of the house in lieu of balusters. This is evening and the clouds seem to have cleared away. I wrote to Cecil to day.
23-11: I nailed the uprights for lattice in the 2 first spaces round the corner and did a bit of fixing to my cart also got the wheels of f and washed the lot ready for the painting. I then did a good bit of planing. To night it is awfully close must be more rain coming.
24-11: I worked in the garden a bit and dressed timber for the rails that I am replacing, the short pieces with on the new verandah. I also put the rest of the balusters in and went and took photos at Wards.
25-11: I just went for milk and stayed home during the afternoon but went to the meeting at night.
26-11: I cut rubbish among pines and gave the body of the cart a coat of paint. I also put a couple of rails at the corner of the new verandah. Had an early tea and went round the top the grapes. There seems to be practically no grapes on.
